Ilene, some are round, some aren't. I'll let you know how the homemade remedy works.

I have had a little bug get my basil in past years. Not sure what it was, but I used a spray bottle of water and a few drops of dish soap. I sprayed not only the tops of the leaves but under them. that seemed to be where the critters originated. It seemed to clear them up. I had to do it every day or two for a week or so.
