Hi Lisa, I love the idea of doing yogurt. I've never done it. I try to eat a Fage with fruit in the little cup every night. I made a quick refrigerator jam the other day that was great and I think it would be perfect with tangy yogurt. What kind of starter did you use?

I used a couple of tablespoons of organic yogurt from Whole Foods. I split into 3 and froze the the other two portions for later batches. It worked quite well.

Thanks, no Whole Foods here, but I'm sure I can find good organic yogurt. So, from the container freeze 2 TBS. batches and it will remain active? Thanks a lot. Do you think that would work with buttermilk to make crème fraîche? Thanks.

I have not tried buttermilk but I don't see why not. I make creme fraiche from storebought creme fraiche (I can keep it going a couple of months), and now I am wondering if it would work for that too... that would be very very handy to keep in the freezer...

Though maybe not approved by yogurt purists, I have a sensor reheat on my microwave which I use to scald my milk. It heats to a point of steaming which in my oven is about 190. It has worked well for me. I also have this bread proofer http://www.amazon.com/Folding-Bread-Pro ... ad+proofer which I've used for bread but haven't tried it yet for yogurt. Deb

JesBelle, I hope you don't mind that I shortened the Amazon link. I think the original one had some characters that the BB software didn't like, or the address was too long, or something.

We got in on the new model through Kickstarter. I think we'll get it in November.

See? That's what I get when I'm too lazy to preview! Thanks.

Anova's new model is supposed to retail at $169, so perhaps the price drop on the current model is permanent.

Cook's Illustrated tests Immersion Circulators this month. The Anova One is "highly recommended"
