Post subject:  What do you cook when your spouse/family is away?
All,

What do you cook when it's just you? Are there things you like to make which nobody else likes to eat, and you can only make when you're home alone?

Example: tonight Kris was out. She doesn't like mushrooms or bitter foods, so I tried out a recipe for mushroom-radiccio risotto I ran across. Last night I was out, and she made chicken wings.

When Geekboy had to go to California for training I made a big batch of CI's crescent roll dough. Then I wrapped it around some Koegel franks, parbaked them, froze them, and lived off them for 2 weeks. I think I had a bag of apples for balance. :lol:

When I was a kid, my mom would make shrimp whenever my dad worked the second shift. We would eat the shrimp and toss the tails to the cat.

I had Koegels Viennas last night for dinner. I made Coney Island Sauce a couple of weeks ago (Flint Style[all meat and spices only], not Detroit [more like a chili sauce]). There is nothing better than a Koegels Vienna, Yellow Mustard, Coney Sauce, Chopped Spanish Onion and a Dill Pickle Spear on a bun. The BEST!

Mostly I just don't. I live on peanut butter toast or canned tuna on toast or canned beans or leftovers or my favorite: Subway!

Sometimes I take some plain ground beef and just cook it up in a frypan (broken apart) and add salt and pepper. It is delicious, I think my grandma made this for us.

Pretty uninventive, but I like the timesaving of not doing any kitchen/shopping/cleanup duty. It lets me get some of those home projects done that otherwise slip to the sidelines.

I always have big plans to make things that DH doesn't like, but usually I spend the time doing major cleaning (esp. throwing things away because DH is a hoarder). Then I am too tired to cook so I eat PB from the jar or cold cereal. Sometimes I'll eat with friends at restaurants DH doesn't like.
