Wino,

So, did you "try" a few last night?

On my current low-alcohol diet, I'm not doing anything which requires making a whole pitcher ...

I love the basic margarita -- essentially Fuzzy's recipe, though I use simple syrup. Other simple delicious drinks are the side car, old fashioned (I have a special love for those right now) and negroni. Most of the stirred or built drinks are fairly simple.

I like Cazadores Reposado for margaritas, Don Julio Anejo for sipping straight. :ugeek:

After my conversation with the woman in the liquor store, I purchased the 1.0 liter bottle of Lunazul ($20). It's a lot better than the brand I was using which tasted a bit like soap). I am happy with it and am quickly using it up.
Thanks to your recommendations I will be trying other brands as well.

This is going to sound like a weird question....but can anyone suggest a non-orange sustitute for Triple Sec? I'm stumped in how to make margueritas as I'm inexplicably horribly allergic to oranges and grapefruit, but not to lemons or limes. So all ingredients but the triple sec would work. I'd live to sub it out in other recipes too (like cosmos) if I can find a substitute.

Edit: would limoncello be similar? (Since I've never tasted triple sec, I'm imagining it's a bit sweet? I haven't tried limoncello either...so have no idea whether it's sweet or not). I have to confess my 'mock Marguerita" recipe to date is the one with lime aid and beer.

Carey,

Do check the ingredients of Triple Sec. I find it has artificial orange flavoring. The higher end liquoirs do have orange oils etc.
