All,

The "arsenic in wine suit" been all over the place:

... but I'm a bit skeptical. The man behind the suit has a strong financial motive, and his results haven't been upheld by any external authority.

That being said, I'm happy not to drink any of those wines anyway, because they're mostly plonk.

Further down in the article it mentions that the highest cited arsenic level in the lawsuit is half Canada's limit for wine.

Pete,

I do find it mildly alarming to realize how much arsenic we're all consuming already.

What would the effects of arsenic poisoning be? If significant, you'd expect us Canuks to be exhibiting symptoms then (because I think there's research that says that we drink more than you guys too).

"Symptoms of arsenic poisoning begin with headaches, confusion, severe diarrhea, and drowsiness. As the poisoning develops, convulsions and changes in fingernail pigmentation called leukonychia striata, Mees' lines, or Aldrich-Mees' lines may occur. When the poisoning becomes acute, symptoms may include diarrhea, vomiting, blood in the urine, cramping muscles, hair loss, stomach pain, and more convulsions. The organs of the body that are usually affected by arsenic poisoning are the lungs, skin, kidneys, and liver.

"Arsenic is related to heart disease (hypertension-related cardiovascular disease), cancer, stroke (cerebrovascular diseases), chronic lower respiratory diseases, and diabetes."

I'm a little selective in what I choose to worry about.

Pete,

Headache, confusion, drowsiness, hypertension. How can they tell it's not just the wine?
