Folks,

First, a Finnish scientist thinks that it's fine to drink up to a bottle of wine a day. Yay! I can go back to my original diet-and-exercise regimen!

But this article also has an excellent round-up on all of the alcohol/medical news from the last couple years:

I especially love the last sentence: "but hey, you might live forever if you don't die first."

Wow...for women being a 'problem drinker' is defined as 4 alcoholic beverages in a 2 - 3 hour window? Maybe my view is skewed but this seems like not a lot.

Carey,

I spent Saturday in Key West, and I am pretty sure my average was higher than that!

Carey,

That's not just "problem drinking"; 4 pints in 3 hours is considered, by the CDC, a "binge".

Which makes me wonder what they'd call the kind of drinking my friends do when they're really partying ...

I'd hate to invite the CDC to our next hockey tournament. ;-)

Not surprising that Living, or at least LIVING IT UP is a disease to an organization with DISEASE as its middle name.

The words of Harold Schlumberg (Making a difference) made the rounds of our dinner group this week.

I like Harold's take on Alcohol Studies...
Quote:
"I've often been asked, 'What do you old folks do now that you're retired?'
Well...I'm fortunate to have a chemical engineering background and one of
the things I enjoy most is converting beer, wine and whisky into urine. I do it every day and I really enjoy it."

That's the funniest thing I've read in a looooong time!

Well, I guess my half bottle of wine last night (topped off with a lovely single malt scotch nightcap) would put me into "binge drinking" territory if the CDC were to be believed. I must be a veritable functioning alcoholic given that I had no trouble getting into work this morning. Although I would suspect that the lovely 4 course Italian dinner that was demoed and then served at our local Italian market cooking school would also count as something unwholesome in their books as well. Filo wrapped spinach with prosciutto and onion, pasta al forno, pork tenderloin in mascarpone/masala sauce with roasted herbed potatoes, and classic tiramisu. I'm still full!
