Post subject: | Bialetti Coffee Maker |
I got one of these little stove top espresso makers and it claims that I shouldn't use soap and water to clean it. http://www.bialetti.com/BialettiUSA.htm I find this bizarre. Dishwasher? OK - I can see that. But I've checked the directions multiple times and they insist only wash with warm water. Every coffee maker I've had, be it a drip or French press, have insisted on washing and rinsing well. Now, wouldn't one find it odd that after about three weeks of using it that the coffee all of the sudden starts tasting more and more like crap? Coincidence? Anyone have experience with these things and can advise? ...lou |

we've used those for years and use almost daily (have 4 or 5 different sizes)....sometimes I just rinse them and sometimes we wash them in soap. totally depends on how I feel at the time. You don't want to wash it too thoroughly though, according to my mom they need to be seasoned when you first get them, so the first couple of coffee rounds are sacrificed. |

Lou, So the thing is, if you rinse a moka pot in hot water promptly after use, you don't need to use soap. But using soap doesn't do any harm, as long as you rinse it thouroughly. The basket is particularly difficult to get all the soap out of. I use soap on mine only when I forget about it and leave sitting it all day. |
