Holly,

First you have to occupy a table in a Paris cafe' for 6 or 7 hours.

I never got beyond that step.

The markets. Buy stuff and have a picnic. There is a great one near the Eiffel tower. I haven't been to Paris in a while but have been to France a few times in the past year. There seems to be a trend in restaurants to serve things in shot glasses and small canning jars. My husband got an appetizer that looked like a layered jello salad but was all seafood... really amazing. They also have some amazing "composed salads" that can be works of art. Anything with fried potatoes. There is a reason it is called the French fry. French people are also very interested in food so it is worthwhile showing your interest and asking locals for restaurant tips. Also ask your servers about wine or ask their opinion about the dishes. Try michelin.com. Try stew type dishes, very lush. Buy some Fleur de Sel, it is pretty reasonable and you can get it in any grocery store.

If I think of anything else, I will let you know. My daughter is going in two weeks for a long weekend but she will probably eat crepes the whole time (not a bad idea, if you can find savory buckwheat ones they are great).

If you are on the Champs....just across from the Marriott Hotel is a little bistro specializing in Mussels and Pommes Frites....they are fabulous and filled with locals.
Also, if you get to Notre Dame, wander around to St Louis....a street filled with little boutiques and restaurants, as well as great bakeries and ice cream shops
I am envious

Over on the CI boards there's a thread or two of info. I can tell you all about where and what to eat in Spain, but France is a foreign country to me. :D

Did you go to Paris? What did you eat? Where did you eat?

We are going back to Paris in Feb. We were there last spring. Everything we ate was delicious & we didn't have any bad wine. I think you could eat anywhere & have good food.
:D

Check out David Lebovitz's blog and website. He has some great recommendations.

Bumping this up because we (finally) rebooked our trip to France, 10/4-10/18 :D :D :D , and am just starting the research.

Plans so far: Paris 10/5-10/8 (staying in a hotel we love in the 6th A.), Le Havre (with family) 10/8-10/10, St Jean de Luz (with family) 10/10-10/14, Versailles (with family) 10/14-10/15, then Paris again for our last 3 days, destination unknown.

I regularly read David Lebovitz and Chocolate and Zucchini and get the Paris Newsletter so I'm up to date with them. Since we've experienced the 6th 2x so we definitely want to explore another neighborhood in a different part of the city. But so many to choose from! I ordered a few books from the library but I would love any recommendations on 'hoods and food.

Merci :)

Nance

Trying to remember where we went with my niece... - it was a place that was recommended some place or another.

Ah well - eating in Paris is like shooting fish in a barrel...
