So last week my mom and I drove up to Stratford, Ontario to see a lot of theatre. It didn't cross my mind to contact anyone until we were on our way home, alas. We stopped in Ann Arbor at Zingermann's for some dinner and got loads of lovely cheeses. At Windsor I checked on our old favorite The Lumberjack, but the quality seemed to have slipped so I scouted out a new breakfasts spot, Taloola Cafe. Very small, but good and good prices.
We had some tasty meals in Stratford proper-The Prune is expensive and worth it. Grilled quail, skate wing, roasted duck, rissoto wth zucchini and tomatoes, smoked eggplant tortellini-all marvelous. The chocolate almond cake was a grand finish.
A Loatian place opened in the years we missed the festival, so we had dinner there one night. Great crispy wings and a dish of roast pork and scallions in crunchy rice served with lettuce to make wraps.
The local fancy chocolate shop, Chocolate Barr's, has started doing bean-to-bar tablets, so I have one to try. Their chocolate covered peanut butter is great.
The plays were excellent, as always.
Next year if we go, maybe we could meet up some of you-I know Todd is on the way.

So that's basically the Shakespeare festival of the Great Lakes?

Michigan has a festival, but Stratford is huge, with four theatres and at least a dozen shows per year. They also live up to the epectations of excellence generated by being so good for close to fifty years.

Becky,
I definitely would have met you at Zingermans. I have a package being delivered from them to me today.

I'd meet you too Becky. Stratford is about 1.5 hours from Toronto. They have a well known cooking school there and a lot of the chefs stay in the area, hence the great restaurant scene.
I'm a sucker for the Festival theatre, although the other venues are good.
The Grand Theatre in London, which would of been on your way, is also quite good, but not as good as Stratford and totally depends on their line up.
