Wow, Montreal is a foodie city. I strongly recommend a visit if you want to go on an eating vacation. Meat-eaters will have an even better time than I did.

No pictures, but some reccomendations based on eating my way around Montreal:

Dinner Options:

Stash Cafe: excellent Polish food in Old Montreal. Also good for groups, and a surprising number of veggie options.

Gado Gado: excellent Indonesian food deep in downtown. Ask them to spice stuff up, though, or they'll make it mild.

Bullion Bilk: Frenchish haute cuisine near Chinatown. Great splurgy restaurant with really good food and an excellent French wine list.

Jano Grillades: old-school no-frills Portuguese restaurant, with grilled sardines, roast Chicken, etc. Two doors down from Schwartz's, if you want a non-beef option while your friends are getting smoked meat.

Confusion Tapas du Monde: fun large-group place which serves small plates from around the world. Somewhat pricey, but very good wine list.

Several people also recommended Garde Manger, but I couldn't get a reservation.

Breakfast/Lunch Options:

Olivie et Gormando: fantastic cafe/bakery in Old Montreal. Also very popular, so be prepared for lines.

Le Cartet: more upscale lunch place near OeG above. Good seasonal cafe menu.

Other foodie stuff:

The Jean-Talon market; pictures coming later.
