Kathy, We were in Charleston/Kiawah and Beaufort with friends in February. The restaurants are wonderful and really very inexpensive. Our best meal was at Fish Restaurant (http://www.fishrestaurantcharleston.com ... 282%29.pdf). The bouillabaise in a coconut broth was remarkable. They also had a huge sale on their excellent selection of wines. The Craftsman Kitchen and Tap House is a great place for lunch and a selection of 40 beers on tap. The crunchy dame sandwich with bbq pork belly was incredible. If you are in for a splurge, The Ordinary is extra-ditto. http://eattheordinary.com/wp-content/up ... 4-food.pdf The Kiawah shopping center (30 miles south) has a wonderful pizza joint. The LeCreuset outlet on King Street has close-out prices on wonderful tri-ply stainless cookware. You should try some low-country specialties and I'd suggest the gumbo. It is much lighter than New Orleans gumbo and very refreshing. I developed a recipe after having some in Beaufort in February. Tim |

I think last time we were in Charleston we ate at FIG on your recommendation. Your latest list also looks very good. |

From our last trip south (about 5 years ago, actually) I got the following recommendations for Savannah. Any feedback?
Looks like we won't be eating at Uncle Bubba's... |

My favorite restaurant in Savannah is the Sapphire Grill. Pricey, but excellent! If you have the time and the inclination, the chef's tasting table with wine flight is outstanding. It happens to be 2 doors down from the Lady & Sons (Paula Deen's place), but don't hold that against it. |

It appears that any restaurant in Asheboro, NC with a good reputation is closed on Sunday. Go figure. |
