I'm doing hors d'oeuvres for a fundraiser next month, and I just spoke with the event planner. I told her about what's going in my life (as a way of explaining why I didn't return her email two weeks ago), and mentioned I'd be going back to Chicago later this week.

As it happens, she is as well for a girl's weekend, and asked me (as a chef) if there's a Thai restaurant I'd recommend. As it's been forever since I lived there, can someone make a recommendation. From what she said, it sounds like she's staying in Streeterville.

I've messaged Chris to ask if he's been to any in Chicago. Will advise.

One of my favorites, not in Streeterville, is Dib, on Lawrence just East of the El. Closer to that neighborhood is Dao, on Ohio near Fairbanks. If you can get on the El, Spoon, almost under the tracks of the Brown Line at Western has some uncommon dishes, like salad from banana blossoms.

Chris has never eaten Thai in Chicago apparently. I'm going to give him Becky's recommendations.

I have a couple of friends in Chicago; Cat usually knows the good restaurants and I know they both like Thai. I'll drop them a line.

Amy,

Arun's in the Irving Park neighborhood is one of the best Thai restaurants in the US. I think is costs $50 for 8 courses. I've been told it is fantastic with no comparison.

Arun's is amazing, but also pricey.

My friend Seth replies to my query thusly --

"Heya... Right in the heart of the Loop is Ruby of Siam (170 W. Washington) that has AUTHENTIC Thai and absolutely amazing rangoons. Also, if you insist on them making your food really hot, they will exceed your expectations. "

He's a bit of a capsaicin addict.

Cat is more of a foodie, but I haven't heard back from her yet. I'll let you know if she does.
