Heading to DC for a week in March to get some Smithsonian time in. Any recommendations for great food that won't break the bank? We are staying in Columbia Heights but are close the the Metro so just about anywhere in the city is good.

We will visit Dino, which we have liked before, and probably eat at Nando's several times because my South African husband needs his fix.

Thanks,

I liked Art Smith's restaurant Art and Soul a lot despite the decor being an odd Asian modern style that clashed with the soul food concept. Not inexpensive though. We also liked Capitol City Brewery, which is reasonably priced. Spike Mendelson's burger place was ok too. Not sure it's worth a cab ride though. The Smithsonian cafeteria was not tasty.

The new Food & Wine magazine has DC recommendations. One of my favorite Asian restaurants is TenPenn (on the corner of 10th and Pennsylvania.

Michel Richard is supposed to have a good restaurant there. I forget the name, sorry.

Hey, Lisa,
This month's issue of food and wine has restaurant suggestions for DC. I bet they have the same info on line...

Been in D.C. all week and have eaten at the above, not by choice but by schedule. All were good, the last being the most interesting. I was flagged down at the entrance with someone saying “nice tie…you from Texas?” (Tie had multiple State of Texas imprints on it.”) Looked up and it was my former Senator Phil Graham, we chatted for 5 minutes or so and found several mutual friends in the process.
