All,
In addition to this thread, I've been doing some research online. So far, the hands-down internet favorite has been the Eagle Creek Tarmac 22. However, the freshest luggage reviews I can find are 2 years old; even Consumer Reports has stopped reviewing luggage (is it just me, or is CR going the way of CI?). So I'm somewhat wary, and will head out to the Edwards Luggage Store before I commit to anything.
Sadly, Andiamo Luggage seems to no longer be in business.

The larger of the set is what needed replacing this last time, the last one got dropped in whatever fluid they use to de-ice the plane. there was NO getting that out. I can tell you that a jeep bag is not good for frequent travellers, that one lasted mere months, he had to purchase something quick on the road when a bag broke at the beginning of a trip. The american tourister set we bought for our honeymoon didn't even make it through 2 trips (and this was pre spinners and telescopic handles), and it was not cheap.

All,
Well, I went ahead and got an Eagle Creek bag. Of the three brands which offer an unconditional guarantee (Eagle Creek, Victrinox and Briggs & Reilly) I like the design the best. For one thing, it has oversized cleated wheels, which will really help me with dragging it through streets, walkways and public transportation.

That bag looks like a great one....hopefully my Samsonite will poop out in the near future and I can take advantage of your research.

Sorry for the tardy response... Luggage to some is just a convenience like tools are to the homeowner that only occasionally needs them, really does not make a lot of sense for a homeowner to own Snap-On tools. Our "family" luggage is Samsonite; it has probably seen 10-15 trips and is showing considerable wear. All I carry on my business trips is a computer bag and a Delsey Helium http://www.delsey.com/ hard side carry-on. The Delsey I have had for a little over a year and it has seen probably 35 + trips, it it starting to get a little tired, a few small cracks and the telescoping handle is starting to fail. I think my next piece will be a TUMI. http://www.tumi.com/product/index.jsp?p ... c=paramNav Expensive but probably the right tool for the way I travel. I like the 4 wheel multi directional bag that I can turn sideways to fit easily down an airplane isle with my computer bag on top. You need the tool to fit the job.

Just an FYI, Marshalls has a limited selection of TUMI right now for half price.
Still pretty expensive but it is good stuff.

Too bad I don't live remotely near a Marshall's...I could really use a new carry on.

Quit being so tight - buy one for Amy; she is sick ya know! While you're at it, ship it to her!
