We are putting our car on the train this evening and getting off in the morning in Hamburg Germany. From there we are slowly making our way up to Stockholm along the coast (with a day trip to Uppsula). Other than a restaurant my husband knows in Hamburg, I have not done any research. I just got back from 2 weeks in the US and this trip kind of crept up on me. Anything for me?

After reading the Millenium Trilogy a couple of years ago, I've gotten hung up on the Swedish and Norwegian mystery writers. They all seem to live on frozen pizza. Can't be of any help but I'd love to go to Malmo.

My BIL grew up there and still has an office there but he has not been back for 2 years; he recommended these links:
http://www.visitstockholm.com/en/Dine/Tips/Michelin-stars-and-other-luminaries

http://www.viamichelin.com/web/Restaurants/Restaurants-Stockholm-_-Stockholms_lan-Sweden?strLocid=31NDF6eHcxMGNOVGt1TXpNeU9BPT1jTVRndU1EWTBPVFU9

He went on to say:
Quote:
Review these sites since it’s been almost two years since I was there last and the restaurant scene in Stockholm has taken serious leaps and bounds since then.

Mary,

If it were anyone other than you taking a road trip to Stockholm, they'd have to be very good at holding their breath.

Helsinki is supposed to have terrific restaurants; you going through there or over the bridge?

Sitting in a hotel in Malmø, ate at the Longhorn Grill. It was 10 pm and this was around the corner. Trip Advisor's no 1 restaurant in Malmø is called Bastard. I think I need to eat there.
Fuzzy, we put the car on the train last night in Lorrach Germany, slept in a shoe box and were in Hamburg this morning and then took a ferry to Denmark and drove from there to Sweden. 4 countries in 24 hours, not bad. Thanks for the links Wino, I will check them out.

With a little luck you might get the twist out of that tall building that looks like it went thru a tornado...

Just spent 3 days on a little island in the smallest hotel room I have ever been in, but very charming. The food was quite good. They grilled the day we got there and we had beef, lamb and moose plus goat, lamb and venison sausages. The sausages were not to our taste... esp. the goat.

We drove up to Stockholm today, what a stunning city! The hotel sent us to an amazing fish restaurant. I had lightly salted cod with a poached egg, shrimp, freshly grated horseradish and browned butter. Score!

Sounds fantastic even if all food wasn't your taste. I haven't been to Stockholm since my "If its Tuesday It Must Be Belgium Tour" in 1978. Might have to add that to the list of to-do's. Keep good notes please, Ms. Marygott1 Living vicariously through you...
