We're going to Orlando at the beginning of January, spending a few days at Universal and other points in Orllando to be determined....we just decided yesterday to book.
Anyone have any dining recomendations? Not fine dining (although our boys 10 and 12 wouldn't mind) but I'm looking for ideas other than the chains.

Oh, and if anyone has any suggestions on things to do in Orlando (not Disney...I fear if I stray near the gates I may hang onto Mickey and not leave) we'd love to know.

Sorry, I've never been. The only thing I know comes from a food network special on Epcott. Maybe take a look at the chowhound board for Florida?

It is in fact Disney... but I cannot stop thinking about the meal I had at Cat Cora's Kouzzina.

The Five Guys in Orlando is very good, as is the nearby Pinkberry for dessert. :)

It's been almost 30 years since I went to Orlando. I really loved Busch Gardens. Is that still around?

JB, it is...but it's in Tampa.

Becca, we are doing downtown Disney for sure (and we might do a day at MK...it's hard to be thisclose and not go), but the plan at DD is to meet friends whose kids eat nothing but fast food. If they don't want to eat with us Kouzina sounds like a plan.

thanks for the suggestions. Normally I plan our vacations months in advance, I booked this 5 days ago!

Hey, after driving down from Michigan I guess Tampa and Orlando seemed much of a muchness, especially to a 15-year-old.

I'm quite a bit late to this post (and completely new to the BB) but I can offer a few suggestions for anyone interested in good eats here in O-town. Jeanf did you have a good time here? Any good food finds? Our local food critic Scott Joseph has a regular review in the Orlando Weekly which is a great place to find new/good eats. There is actually a surprising amount of good food to be found if you know where to look.

Welcome to the board, acebben! My husband has relatives near Orlando (Tavares), and it's good to know we can find a good meal when we visit.
