Long beach mainly has a bunch of chain restaurants, and one tourist trap place that was $$$ (at least when I was there 2 years ago). We ate at Famous Dave's, which was ok. The pulled pork sliders were not bad (not amazing, but not bad). DH says there is an ok burger place not too far from the harbour/boardwalk, but he can't recall if it is a chain, or what it's name was. *sigh*. There was, however, really good spicy mango jelly being sold on the nearby boardwalk. Yummy on crackers with cream cheese. That was the highlight.

Highly recommend Michael's on Naples, Zagat Rated and is said to be the best Italian restaurant in Long Beach and the second best in the L.A. area (so there Wino! ) We had the 5 course Chefs Tasting menu…all very good. Michael came by the table and chatted for a while, very personable and justifiably proud of his restaurant. Seems he is a Brooklyn boy and full blooded Italian.

My dining companion was a Detroit native and also full blooded Italian so you can only imagine all of the waving of arms going on during the communications. I later stated that if I tied up his arms he probably couldn’t say a word…ain’t cheap but very good.

We Had:

Burrata E Pomodoro Heirloom tomatoes, burrata, ciabatta crostini and Taggiasca olive tapenade.

Ricotta stuffed squash blossoms with honey basil pesto.

Risotto Con Aragosta Canaroli rice with Maine lobster, leeks and cream.

Tagliata Di Manzo Carved Prime New York Strip steak with cipollini onions, potato gnocchi and rosemary reduction

Torta Di Mandorle Almond cake with rosemary cream

Torta Di Formaggio New York cheesecake with mascarpone and strawberry jam.
