We are having a store bought turduckin. We have made one in the past & it was an incredible amount of work. :o There will be only six of us - son, DIL & 2 granddaughters.

I have a dislocated shoulder & that is putting a crimp in my planning.
:(
We will have turkey gravy, potato stuffing (my mom's recipe) green beans, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie, DIL & son will bring appetizer & a spinach salad. I have also made some cranberry nut bread & banana bread. Pretty simple this yr.

Let me live thru your wonderful menus this yr.

So sorry to hear that Kathy - that really sucks :( Hope its not too, too painful...

We also have a small group (8 adults), but a few have big appetites, and we need leftovers, so this is the menu so far:

Appetizers: Deviled Eggs (for the early arrivals), Roasted Red Peppers, Smoked Salmon Spinach Remoulade, Carrot and Prosciutto Bundles

Salad: Baby Spinach-Pear Salad w/Gorgonzola and Mustard Vinaigrette

Thanksgiving: CI Roast Turkey with Pan Giblet Gravy, Yukon Gold Mashed Potatoes,
Herbed Bread Stuffing, my Mom’ s Rice, Spinach, Mushrooms and Bacon Stuffing,
Roasted Carrots with Balsamic Browned Butter, Roasted Green Beans with Garlic,
Roasted Cippolini Onions, Cranberry Orange Sauce

Dessert: Pumpkin Chiffon Pie, Apple Pie with Vodka Crust, Chocolate Truffles, Ice Cream, Fresh Whipped Cream.

Nance

I wish you a quick recovery Kathy!

Well there will just be three of us this year, so no turkey. I am taking Paris sandwich's to my friends and we will have champagne and sit in the back yard if the sun is out, then watch football and go to a movie.
Paris sandwich's are ones I had in Paris and replicated here for picnics.
Buttered baguette, slathered with triple creme brie, stacked with Black Forest ham and fresh basil. Any excuse to make and eat these is good enough for me

Actually, I'm doing a few CI recipes. I've done these before and they were a hit.
Butterflied turkey with cranberry balsamic glaze
Bread stuffing with fresh herbs
Mashed potatoes
Sweet potato pudding
Amy's waldorf salad
CI's green bean casserole
That's it. Not big. Just me, Honey, Accumulated daughter, son and his wife.

The girls are making the pies.

It might just be the two of us this year for the first time in ages. We are smoking a small turkey (do you know how hard it is to light one of those? yuck yuck yuck). We'll probably also have buttermilk mashed potatoes, roast carrots and turnips, CI's green bean casserole, and either pumpkin cheesecake or a pumpkin roulade with mascarpone cream.

I am going to de-bone the turkey before smoking and use the carcass to make stock for gravy. I've been practicing by de-boning chickens, stuffing and roasting them. This is what happens when you spend too much time watching Jacques Pepin videos.

Edit to add: cranberry sauce. Must have cranberry sauce.

Sweet potatoes and mineral water. Actually others are making some other things like turkey but I am focussing on what my job is or, as I like to call it, "the big picture". There will be 30 of of this year so plenty of food to be passed around. I sill have no idea what I want to do with the sweet potatoes. Suggestions gladly accepted.

Mary,

Depends on how fancy you want to get. I once did a sweet potato, blue cheese and thyme gratin. I could dig up the recipe if you're interested.

Mary,

While I am not really a sweet potato person, Thanksgiving just wouldn't be the same without them, so I'm a traditionalist about them. I love the candied sweet potatoes recipe from Epicurious.

Kathy, so sorry to hear about your shoulder. Having broken mine I know what it's like, and cooking is completely out of the question. Heal quickly.

Not sure what we're doing for T-Day. We had talked about going back east, but with everything else going on with my family that kind of put a kibosh on it. I'll probably do something simple here, unless we go to Utah to camp (weather permitting).

Amy
