I'm making some mustard for Christmas and the recipe calls for good quality apple cider vinegar. Aanybody have a brand to recommend? Local stores only carry Heinz.

I use that frequently in salad dressings and love it!

Though I use more sherry and rice vinegar than cider, my favorite cider vinegar is Spectrum Naturals Organic which is readily available here in all stores.

Bragg organic is very good. It's the only other option I have except Heinz...but Heinz works well.

The CI testing lab likes Spectrum so I'd probably go with that but I swear by Bragg's for heartburn relief!

Another vote for Bragg's or Spectrum. Heinz is also pretty good, but don't buy the giant jug. I believe all of the sizes that are sold in glass bottles are actually apple cider vinegar, but the big plastic jugs are apple cider flavored vinegar. That's probably the low-quality, no-account vinegar the recipe wants you to avoid.

Oh, and thanks for reminding me -- need to put cider vinegar on my shopping list.

The problem I've had with Bragg's is that it's actually a "live" vinegar. So, since I don't use cider vinegar often, I can take 6-8 months to go through a bottle. In that time, Bragg's will get cloudy and actually develop a solid layer of "mother". So I use Spectrum instead. Western Family (a discount brand) is also OK.
