Re Orangette- is her book worth getting? I see some really inexpensive used copies. ;-)

Jean, I really enjoyed her book and wish she'd write another. I got it on a sale table when one of our local book stores closed (heartbreaker). There's a buttermilk cake with oranges I particularly like. I'd recommend the book just for the pleasure of reading it if nothing else.

I am going to a friends house for Thanksgiving. I am taking a Chocolate Pecan Pie. I will be using the KAF recipe.

Just got upgraded to doing only sweet potatoes to also doing rolls. Anyone have a good recipe I can make Sat. night and pop in the oven on Sun? Looking for the basic American dinner type.

Mary,
You can make these ahead and pop them in the oven right before you need them.

I don't know about the rest of the menu, since I just bake the sweets - Butterscotch Pumpkin Pie, and Sweet and Salty Brownies. Today, I made the butterscotch for the pie, then the caramel for the brownies. And I am making two half recipes in 8x8 pans(both are done in 9x13 pans originally), and comparing the original recipe to that favorite of mine, Palm Beach brownies. I'll give you the resulfts of the tasting.

Those look good Ivy, but I am afraid the instant potatoes here might be different, I think they are a powder. I found these on Martha Stewart's site. What do you think?

I'm not Ivy but they look good to me. I *think* Jim has recommended the CI make ahead dinner rolls, a google search found this: http://www.tastebook.com/recipes/166692 ... ecipe=true
and the recipe matches the one in my CC book, but with the make ahead instructions.

CI has a new potato roll that I love using fresh potatoes.

Our thanksgiving is happening Friday. Today I started my prep: cornbread and bread baked and cubed for dressing, spiced pumpkin cheesecake baked and refrigerated, double batch of chicken stock made, meringue for CI's new dacquoise baked, and pastry cream for the dacquoise made.

Not too shabby. Tomorrow I am even taking time out to take my daughter to Breaking Dawn.
