It's nearing the winter holidays, and that means ... catalogs!

Now, SLT and W-S catalogs have become downright boring, aside from the prices. But thanks to a few unwise purchases, we are now getting more "interesting" catalogs (addressed to "Mr. Kris Ashley Berkus"). For example, Cabela's Christmas Catalog.

Cabela's is fascinating ... where else can you get a complete duvet and bedding set, not just in regular camo pattern, but in hot pink camo? Yes, really: http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/cabe ... 1WlhJ4V_aY

But, for this board, the truly entrancing item is on page 8: not just a Tur-Duc-Hen, but also turduchen rolls (2lbs of layered meat), and a Quaducant: "a six-pound mixture of quail medallions, duck breaks and Creole sausage, all stuffed inside a partially boned pheasant." The thinks I miss out on because I don't eat meat. Order now!

More later on this thread; I see we just got the Vermont Country Store.

The Cabelas turduckens aren't authentic. Harrumph.

Kenji's treatment of the recipe (layers progressively cooked from the inside out; sausage standing in for bread stuffing) is almost tempting but it seems to require more precision than I want to apply before lunch on a Thursday.
