I'm just home after 10.5 hours in the kitchen at work. Yup, it's Valentine's Day...we're booked solid.

Andy's working late, so I think I'll make a hot dog. ;)

Nothing fancy or special. Old skool escargot as an app, braised short ribs (mostly MC) and crushed potatoes (Heston) as the main. Week night fare. Maybe I'll get carried away on the weekend.

I'm with Nancy. We're going out to our favorite French restaurant (clickety) on Friday.

Last night we did our traditional "at home" Valentine's Day meal, an eggplant-tomato casserole. Pedestrian, I know, but it's a ritual repeat of Valentine's Day 1992 and the first meal I ever cooked for Kris (in a borrowed kitchen in a rooming house, yet).

To make it not quite so pedestrian, she made double-chocolate mousse pie from Alice Medrich's Great Chocolate Desserts. Wow, rich. It's gonna take us all week to finish this. Also occured to me that it's gluten-free, for anyone who's looking for desserts for the celiac-inflicted.

No red wine, we're both suffering from horrible allergies right now.

Simple meal here too, but tasty. Sear-roasted tenderloin steaks, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms finished with a dollop of crème fraiche, roasted asparagus, and ceasar salad. The Woodcutter Shiraz to go with. Yum. DH organized it, and we cooked it together.
