Made some ribs in the smoker today

We went on a mini-road trip with friends yesterday, up and down the Mississippi. Ate lunch at the Harbor Bar across the river from Red Wing, MN (home of the World's Largest Boot). Harbor Bar had lots of fake boobs, tattoos, and freshly ironed leathers from the posers on their new H-Ds. I ate a not half-bad blackened chicken sandwich (incredibly spicy for MN/WI so just spicy enough for me). They made their own jerk sauce and a honey-mayo that were both good for dipping fries. Next we had treats from a small bakery in Stockholm, WI, a very quaint little town. They were meh, obviously used commercial puff pastry. Then we had ice cream from Nelson's Creamery in Nelson, WI (where I also picked up some creme fraiche). Saw a spectacular view of the upper Mississippi at Alma, then hightailed it back home. Not sure what we are doing for the rest of the weekend. Probably not much. If anything, some wings and pork on the grill. |

We're going to some friends who are grilling steaks. We haven't been there in a while because she's a real bad cook, and we seem to pick around on our plates. I think she's noticed. They usually come to our house. Anyhow, she bought some NY strip steaks, and asked me what I would marinate them in. I gasped and said just S&P and toss them on the grill. At one point she asked, "Why don't we just come to your house?". I bit my tongue.....real hard. |

One of our annual 4th treats is the Parkville, MO parade and fireworks display. As the area where the fireworks are shot from is totally under water and part of the city is also, doubt we'll make it. Most of the area under water is park land and the farmer's market. Glad for the businesses that they are still ok at this point. fitzie |

You know, when I drive by the Smokey Bear signs here in Colorado (they're in every town) and they are saying today's danger of wildfire is "high", I wonder why the hell firework sales are legal in this state. It's damn dry right now, and very windy. It all just doesn't add up. Amy |

Weather depending, Tequila-Glazed Pork Chops and Grilled Romaine with Blue Cheese Dressing tomorrow (4th). Rained all day today so made big batches of eggplant parmesan, stuffed cabbage, jalapeno poppers and summer berry pudding. Great way to spend a rainy summer day! Nance |

We had Canada day on Friday, and had a pick up type dinner with neighbours where we all rummaged, cooked and ate in our backyard- basically burgers and salad. Yesterday had friends over and made the CI grilled wings again, a roast pork loin and served french onion soup from the freezer. I kept it hot in the crock pot, melted swiss on top of crostini and served those on the side. People ladled the soup into bowls then floated a crostini on top. Happy 4th! |
