Just got the quarterly Fearless Flyer from TJ's (they still mail it out in SF). I think I see a theme here:

  • Pumpkin bread mix
  • pumpkin spice coffee
  • Joe's Pumpkin O's
  • pumpkin pancake mix
  • pumpkin rolls with pumpkin icing
  • pumpkin ice cream
  • pumpkin cream cheese muffins
  • pumpkin spiced pumpkin seeds (really)
  • gluten free pumpkin pancake mix
  • mini pumpkin pies
  • pumpkin bagels
  • pumpkin spice chai latte
  • pumpkin cream cheese
  • ginger pumpkin mini mouthfuls
  • pumpkin bread pudding
  • pumpkin cheesecake
  • pumpkin croissants
  • pumpkin macaroons
  • pumpkin pie mochi ice cream (rearrange these 5 words in any order you please)
  • pumpkin waffles
  • organic canned pumpkin
  • organic pumpkin toaster pastries
  • pecan pumpkin oatmeal
  • pumpkin bar baking mix
  • pumpkin bread mix
  • pumpkin butter
  • pumpkin cornbread mix
  • pumpkin cranberry scone mix
  • pumpkin pie spice
  • pumpkin soup
  • toasted pumpkin seed oil
  • This Pumpkin Walks Into A Bar (really, that's the name of the product)
  • cut sugar pumpkins
  • mini decorative pumpkins
  • orange pumpkins
  • honey roasted pumpkin ravioli (rearrange as you wish)
  • non-fat pumpkin greek yogurt
  • chocolate salted pumpkin caramels
  • pumpkin cranberry pita crisps
  • pumpkin biscotti, brittle and croutons (not all together)
  • pumpkin Joe-Joe's
  • pumpkin body butter
  • KBC Pumpkin Ale
  • kabocha squash

... but maybe it's just me?

Incidentally, "pumpkin" starts looking like a really weird non-word after you've seen it a few hundred times.

Just got back from the US where I was really struck by the all pumpkin all the time trend. I even had a pumpkin spiced beer. Odd lack of actual pumpkins as food though.

Mary,

The ironic thing (isn't it hip?) is that this is the worst year for the US pumpkin harvest in like the last 25 years. Between the California drought and the weather in south Texas, a lot of the pumpkin crop was destroyed.

I see they skipped the pumpkin dog treats.

And where's the pumpkin-rooibos tea? It's the same one they sell for twice the price at Starbucks. My roomie says the pumpkin coffee is very good. I'll take his word for it, since I don't drink coffee. The pumpkin toaster pastries are pretty good. I always stock up on their canned pumpkin when it comes around.

Serious Eats did a taste test of TJ's punkin-stuff a couple years ago.

As for the shortage, at least Oreo is doing their part. The pumpkin spice double-stuffs are artificially flavored.

If you have dogs, you can use the canned (pure) pumpkin as a supplement to their food. I have one who is slightly overweight and I add a Tbsp or two to her food. Sometimes I use frozen (then steamed) green beans instead. She loves both, which are very healthful. I got approval from my vet.

Speaking of feeding pumpkin to dogs, it's really great if they have loose poop. All that fiber!

Here's a review what the Kitchn thinks are the best Trader Joe's pumpkin products:
