Amy,

Out here, here's what sells:

  • Brioche
  • Chocolate croissants/rolls
  • One or two-serving tarts and pies
  • Challah
  • Cookies
  • Artisan breads

Of course, Telluride is not San Francisco -- quite -- so you'll want to tweak that for local tastes. Having "mini" pies and tarts is really helpful, though, in any area where you have a lot of single people and childless couples.

I like to buy jams or other preserves that I can use or give as gifts if invited, just to have something on hand. Last weekend I bought a Aligote wine jelly that is amazing with cheese. It is not too sweet. I am also a sucker for hot pepper anything. I am also taken in by good packaging. It is also a great way to advertise for your catering business. Good luck, tell us what you end up making.

Mary

Other than produce, honey, perogis, and free range chickens/eggs, we buy artisan breads (cinnamon swirl, spice bread, cranberry pumpkin seed, multigrain), jam, pies, tarts, and breakfast quick breads. Cinnamon buns sell well here as well. The hot food stalls are popular as well (samosas, phillipino breakfasts, pulled pork sandwiches).

Just made some rosemary pepperoni rolls - I don't know how they'd do in Colorado, but they sell like crazy in WV and Ohio. Easy to make, can vary package size, keep well without refrigeration, etc.

Small fruit pies sell well here. Good luck!
