Folks,

As mentioned, we started receiving the Uncommon Goods catalog in their VD issue (viewtopic.php?f=31&t=2918). Well, we got our third one today, and it has some truly ... inspired ... items in it. And some of them are even related to cooking!

So, to begin our selection we have a trio of truly amazing bargains for beer lovers! As we know, beer lovers are much more economy-minded than those pretentious wine "aficionados", so we've put together a bargain selection of gifts with that in mind:

Beer Tasting Flight: a wine barrel stave, with 4 circles drilled in it, and 4 X 4oz glasses courtesy Crate & Barrel. Contains no beer. Yours for the low, low price of $60 ... per guest.

Southern Bourbon Stout Beer Brewing Kit:

Quote:
For this particular style, you'll want to purchase a bottle of bourbon to soak the medium toasted American oak chips in (instructions included), so the stout you'll end up creating will be rich with vanilla and oak notes! Makes 1 gallon.

Yes, it's a "bourbon beer" brewing kit, but you supply your own bourbon! For $45, plus shipping and the cost of the bourbon, to make the equivalent of 8 pints of beer. Whatta deal!

Beer Tote:

Quote:
Handcrafted by David and Christopher Steinrueck out of redwood beams reclaimed from salvage yards in the San Francisco area, this mix-and-match crate is bound to become your best drinking buddy. Smooth, stained wood slats hug craft beers and sodas snuggly keeping clinks to a minimum and giving your favorite fizzes a cheer-worthy mode of transportation and presentation.

Don't wait, order now! These $35 replacements for a free cardboard six-pack holder, made from scrap wood, are flying off the shelves. Buy now or forever regret it!

Now, you can take all the cash you've saved on those specacular beer accessories and use them to buy some of our more unique items for the cook and host(ess). For example:

Gliding Susan(tm) Table Server: this amazing and unique table accessory not only spins like a regular "lazy Susan", it also slides on a wooden track down the table. Just the thing for a big tureen of noodle soup, or a dozen tall glasses full of sangria. As we like to say here in catalog-land, What Could Possibly Go Wrong? (tm)

Stoneware Compost Container: to really appreciate this item, you need to see the picture:

Yes, no longer to you have to wait until things are actually dead to compost them! Just shove that sucker in, clamp on the stainless steel lid and screw it down tight! The noise and shaking will subside in mere hours, and then the composting can begin!

Flavors of America Salt Collection: in these 11 test tubes are such great "American" salts as Hawaiian Citrus Lemon Salt and Sonoma County Vintage Merlot Infused Salt. Yes, this is the collection to make the salt lover say "really, you shouldn't have". Not only that, it's an incredible bargain ... almost 15oz of flavored salts for the low price of $60.

Weiner Dog Oil and Vinegar Set: modeled on a set designed by cartoon artist Gary Larson:

Silicone Wine Tumblers: Why settle for ordinary rigid wine tumblers when you could have wine glasses which squeeze, squish and distort when you grab them? Think of the fun! Think of the laughter! Think of the new carpeting!

Speaking of new carpeting, you need to check out the Labyrinth Glass. Yes, someone has finally done it: combined a rolling-ball maze with a whiskey glass. Per our trademarked phrase: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Finally, your friend and mine, the Marimo Moss Ball Light Bulb Terrarium Ball Moss Bulb Light Terrarium Marimo Moss Bulb Ball is back! Only we kind of overwatered it. So now, exclusively to Uncommon Goods, we bring you: the Marimo Moss Ball Light Bulb Aquarium. Yes, it's a new, different and much wetter experience!

Uncommon Goods: subscribe now, or forever hold your money.

Wow, that is some amazing stuff, for a definition of amazing. Isn't stoneware pretty porous? That had better be very well glazed....

Hmmmm...I may be able to use that, considering that I trapped 6 squirrels in the last week. I hate wasting all that dead meat. I guess it depends on the size of it...might only hold one.

No, you're thinking of earthenware, which is low-fire and porous. Stoneware is high-fire and waterproof.
