At least you can get wine in a grocery store - in our part of Mass. we can't (blue laws). But I do love my Whole Foods.

You can't buy liquor or wine in any grocery store in Colorado (at least to my knowledge). We just repealed our Sunday blue laws a few years ago. I'm hoping the blue laws on selling in grocery stores goes away soon. Heck, we just legalized pot.

Why not just take your own box? If you are getting them from other stores, save one and take it with you.
Not giving you a box is such a minor infraction, not enough to keep me away.

I too, would give my eye teeth for a WF.

I would disagree. The store gets their wine in case lots in a box. Other than desiring to sell you a special box, there is no reason that you should be asked to carry out a dozen or so bottles bare handed.

I don't often go shopping with a bunch of boxes in my truck.

Supermarkets don't sell wine in my state, but they are trying to repeal those laws. You'd think the state would want the extra revenue!

Dave,

The argument used against allowing it here in Colorado is that it would hurt small Mom & Pop stores in favor of large supermarkets.

Amy,

Here, they have been hurt already by the big places, like Canals, and huge independent places specializing in wine. About the only place they still keep in business is small towns. And the supermarkets would only be selling beer and wine.

Since the odds of Mom&Pop stores having an effective lobby approach zero, I'd have a hard time believing that is the real reason.

Mind you, here in Ontario we still have to buy in government run stores to buy wine in, though they went all sinner on use and sell on Sundays now-a-days.

Paul,

I do not agree. Colorado is complicated because of our sheer number of micro breweries, which are basically supported by the independent Mom & Pop retailers, not the supermarkets. The breweries are important to the state, and hence the small retailers are important.

Ah, so the Brewers have a strong lobby and their interests coincide with Mom & Pop retailers, or at least make a good in-state revenue stream. Mom & Pop's better hope those brewers don't manage to get together a collective wholesaler who knows how to sell to major supermarkets.

I used to have a gift basket business and we could sell booze. I just had to apply for a license and pay about 20 bucks and we were good to go. Quite a revelation after living in PA and the State Store system!
