I think you've been punk'd, internationally even.

Laurie,

The point isn't the box. It's that Whole Paycheck, a premium grocery store which already charges 20% to 50% more than other markets locally, refused to provide a service which its lower-priced competitors cheerfully provide. It's like going to a high-priced restaurant and having them charge you for tap water.

Maybe you should start a movement. I'm sure Whole Foods would start to notice dozens of folks showing up with boxes all of a sudden. Perhaps with a big protest labels on them -- "I got this box at a store that cares!" "Don't upsell me your silly bottle bag!" Because that might be more noticeable than the absence of one more bearded dude.

JB,

Given the location, I'm not sure the protest would be noticed either ;-)

A cardboard box does not appear to be a dangerous creature, but they are known to run in packs. Even MOMandPOP know that they must be kept in cages until somebody comes along to adopt them.

In order to prevent an ugly cardboard infestation, WF and most big box stores maintain a vicious program of crushing empty corrugated boxes with nanoseconds of becoming an empty threat. Watching a poor, innocent box being executed in the immense jaws of crusher-baler is indeed ugly, but it is necessary step to keep that box from becoming dozens or hundreds piled waist high.

Sadly, the needs of the few who may want an empty box now and then are being sacrificed to the wishes of many who find the sight of such critters offensive. Consumer boycotts and street demonstrations may be order.

Fuzzy, I get it, it just wouldn't keep me from shopping there. I'd take a box and wouldn't let bother me. But, everyone has their own pet pieves, that just wouldn't be one on mine. To each his own. Cheers!

Laurie

I enjoyed Jim's creative writing & hope Fuzzy did too! And I think Jim is on to something. Once the mercury starts to climb, the baggers are forever offering me ice for my fish, poultry or whatever meat I have purchased. I bet they just don't have the room for the boxes, at least they wouldn't in my WF, way too small. Although since they do not sell alcohol in my WF this is a moot point for me!
