WOW, those look great.

I was disapointed last week with the FM. I bought a small basket of salad cukes and one of tomato's. 2 of the 5 tomato's had brown spots and a couple of the cukes were moldy. It really pisses me off when that happens :x . I buy from the farmer because it's supose to be fresh! Both came from the same vendor. I won't buy from him again.

We have 3 amish farmers that have good produce, so I will stick with them and one lady that has sungold tomato's, beans, ground beef and lamb. She is a little higher priced, but her stuff is always fresh.

Live and learn, Laurie

I've been buying mini-cukes and having a go a making cornichon, since you can't really buy them here, and my best source in Montreal(L'Express) is outrageously expensive; about $20/jar. So, canned up 9 liters now, using basically two different recipes, and in a month or so we'll see what they are like!

Paul, the cornichon's look great. How do the 2 recipe's differ?

I've done a sweet version of pickle with the little cukes. I buy the little ones for salads this time of year too. I think they are sweeter and have a better crunch.

I'll be interested in hearing your review of each batch in a month.

Laurie

One set has dill, clove, onion and peppercorn. The other has tarragon, onion and peppercorn, with a couple of bottles having hot peppers thrown in. the tarragon set is better sized, too. I suspect the tarragon ones will be more 'french'. In the stores here you can only buy sweet ones (gherkins); with a cheese plate, smoked or very rich food or the like, the tart ones are truly wonderful. I'm hoping these come out well. Next year I'll try some fermented ones too.
