The VERY best price on Plugra butter; take a cooler with ya! I'm sure you can find something to put in it for the trip there...

Great idea....I hadn't thought of taking a cooler. Thanks, Wino

I am back from Santa Fe and a pilgrimage to TJ's. Couldn't believe how many of the cars in the parking lot had Colorado license plates. In any case, thanks to all of your suggestions, I have a pantry full of fun food from the Trader.

Reminds me of the old joke...

"How do you know when it's Spring in Utah? When all the license plates turn green."

My closest TJ's is about 3.5 hours south. It's only 40 minutes from my Mom's so I try to get there once a year when I visit. There is a WF there as well. I prefer TJ's for price and quality. I'm about due for a trip. They have a mushroom pate that we love. The only other time I get there is while on vacation. Then it's difficult to bring home anything that needs refrigeration. So we buy and eat while traveling.

So, some new stuff in the TJ's frozen food section worth buying:

  • Aloo Chat frozen Indian savory pastries. Good as an Indian appetizer or as a breakfast food. Although I didn't try to do them in the microwave with the "crisper sleeves"; I used the oven.
  • Vegetable "Bird's Nests" Chinese-style appetizers. Not at all like the actual Chinese appetizer, either the artificial or the real swallow's nests, these are nice little bundles of shredded tempura vegetables.

Also, with the old Pico de Gallo salsa long gone, TJ's Habanero and Lime salsa is their current best hot salsa.

Those bird' nests are a big hit when we do "TJ's Dim Sum" night at the ol' ranch.

I don't know if ya'll follow this but this thread rates the products at TJ. http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/903957 I used to make a monthly round trip of nearly 200 miles to hit TJ's, Costco and WF. This last year we got TJ's and Costco in our town. I am happy! Deb
