Post subject:  Hot pepper jelly - what to do??

I just picked up some home done hot pepper jelly at a mom and pop coffeeshop. I've never really purchased this and used it although I think I've eaten it with brie and wheat thins or something like that.

What are some things I can use it for?

This is one of those condiments that always sounds like a lot of fun when you buy it (or taste at the seller, often on a Ritz w/cream cheese on it) and then when you get home try to figure where you're gonna store it and what you're really going to do with it.

I've got a jar myself, next to the Baconnaise, Frog Balls (spicy pickled brussels sprouts), salmonberry jam, etc.....

So lets see, what you are saying is that I save myself the time, trouble, and shelf space by immediately throwing it in the trash.

That does make some sense! :geek:

EB
Do not shelve it....take that triple creme brie you bought and bring it to serving temp. Using good sourdough chunks or plain crackers, put a bit of the brie on the bread and top with the pepper jelly...it is yummy!

Yes, with cream cheese. Great and easy for guests. I make a mound of CC and just dump (artfully, of course) the jelly over and surround with crackers. I look for spicy/sweet jellies to do this with. I recently found some apricot chili spread that was good too.

OK, old subject I know, but....

I was just at a local farmers market and a seller who makes 3 different pepper jellies gave this tip: glaze a pork roast or chicken with it. Didn't get to try it but I bet it's wonderful. Oh and her samples were on water crackers with chevre, yum :)

She had: mild confetti (with red, green bits plus seeds of?, very pretty!), medium pineapple jalapeno, hot mango habenero. They were all delish. I need to make some of this....

We love it with pork chops or grilled chicken breasts. DH eats it as the j on his pbj. I always have a jar or two in the pantry.
