That was the first thing I noticed, as well as the 6 complaints with ATK; 1 was resolved with BBB intervention and 6 have gone unanswered. At least this confirms what we all ready know; they don't seem to care and don't care to respond.

Very sad...

And I've just had a lengthy set of messages with a person who wants to make some bread pudding ahead of time. They needed to know if they should re-heat in squares, (as it says in the recipe) or not, if cut in squares, should they be spread out, and if the dish is cool when refrigerated is condensation still a worry.
It almost feels like I'm being gamed. Hey, if they need that level of help, I'll give it, I'm just amazed.

This is a good read!

BCP/Cook's Illustrated gets an "F" because they had a relatively high number of complaints (124 over three years) and did not even respond to 7 complaints. The complaints are not primarily about subscriptions.

Its not necessarily clear what category the typical book problem would fall under. It could easily fall under billing and could, in theory, even fall under delivery though I will admit it is a stretch. People are pretty miserable at classification.

CDS, since they are not the front man, would not have a lot of complaints.

In any case, it is, indeed, a terrible record. I'm surprised that I don't see more grousing on other BB's, though I admit I peruse very few cooking BB (well, only 3 including this one and TOBB) s, so it might just be me.

It was THE magazine that first catapulted me into taking cooking more seriously; the web site was icing - meeting all of you, riffing with Da Bull Man, etc., finding people that were well-twisted without getting their shorts in a knot. It definitely went to hell in a hand basket and then Fuzzy saved the day. Though I gotta say, Fuzzy, your patience in maintaining the site for so long before blastoff is and was marveling.

Didn't take much, really, which is why the technical problems with TOBB were so frustrating to me. This bulletin board costs me about 1/3 of my $300/year hosting account, and it took me less than three hours to install it and around 1/2 hour a week to maintain it (1/2 hour a month when nobody was using it). AFAICT, the huge amounts of effort which the BCP staff wasted on all the TOBB problems were completely due to being taken for a ride by bad software and incompetent, dishonest contractors. I could have run TOBB for around $2000/year, and I offered, but CK ignored me.

So, yeah, I miss that site, but more importantly I hate seeing potential wasted. It should be a learning tool through information sharing and the owners should care. The conundrum of espousing one thing and practicing another is the essence of what brings down relationships, organizations, and political systems; in short, it breeds distrust.

The problem is simpler than that ... it's the common case of a "benevolent dictator" turning malevolent in his old age. The bulletin board is just a symptom. 4 years ago I think BCP could have been rescued if CK had turned over managing the business to someone good and let them run it properly. Now I don't think it's possible. Look for BCP to be acquired by a media monopoly and turned into the second Food Network sometime soon.

I'm thinking Fuzzy is right. It's really too bad.
