So we've been watching this set of food videos, from "Chef John", called food wishes.

He has an engaging manner (lots of jokes) and focuses on simplified, easy-to-make versions of recipes from a whole assortment of cuisines. He kinda reminds us of the Fruge, before ... well, before the reason we all stopped watching the Fruge.

I like Chef John. I watch his videos occasionally and follow his blog. But there is something about his voice... or his manner. I am not sure what it is, but it puts me off. His food / ratios are solid though. He has been around a long time and he has a vast archive.

Lisa,

We did his Persian Rice last night. This is possibly the best simple recipe I've run across all year; it really simplifies what, in Diguid's cookbook, is a 3-page set of instructions down to 6 ingredients with no measurements.

I agree, Lisa, watching the video I noted his unusual voice and that the cadence is off. I'd have trouble listening for very long.

Linda, Lisa:

Wierd, because the delivery is one of the things we like about him. It's lighthearted and cheerful.

Whenever his videos are posted on /r/cooking this is what happens. People either love or hate him. Maybe this is why he isn't more widely known.

I’m in the can’t watch him category. On the other hand, I could just listen to binging with babish all day.

Paul,

Whereas Babish drives me up a wall.

Maybe this is related to who you watched on TV as a kid?

I didn't have/watch TV as a kid, so can't be that particular vector. This is probably related to intuition and first impression stuff, which is a fairly fascinating area of study.
