I have been following the evolution of .gif recipes. They have been growing in volume until they are everywhere, all the time. But, of more interest to me is that they are starting to teach people to actually cook real food. At first, all I was seeing was variations on cheese + bread. Then a wave of college student stuff. Then a flood of party food. And, this week... real food. This, for example. Not that the other items aren't real food. But, this is an actual meal. Something you could feed your family for Sunday dinner or a holiday.

What do you all think? Is this a tool to get the next generation interested in cooking? Is it a fad?

Lisa,

Not sure. I like the format; it's brief and to the point in a way that Flash videos are not (I seldom watch videos of cooking stuff because they're too long and involve too much talking). So this format would be good for *me*, especially if someone like Kenji adopted it.

That is actually pretty cool. I too would like to someone like Kenji try it out with some good photography, careful recipes, etc.

Fuzzy, may I introduce you to The Wadsworth Constant. Just press 3 on YouTube video to exercise. Often will still need to do some scrubbing, though.

Paul,

Believe it or not, I'd never heard of that before. So true!

Friends post slow cooker versions of these on Facebook. Makes stuff look do-able and easy, although I suspect the finished products are often doctored to be made to look tastier then they are.

I love watching these. I don't thing they are a fad and welcome the more complex stuff over the bread plus cheese. Now I want to make those philly cheesesteaks.
