Food 52 is not unknown around here, but it is expansive enough and interesting enough that it may deserve its own topic.

The occasion is Cindy Mushet's Italian Jam Shortbread Tart (Fregolotta) a tart that is so easy and so tasty that it belongs in everybody's dessert arsenal. We used orange jam to make our first one. Wild Blueberry jam will probably be next.

i make that but we call it Crostata. I generally use raspberry jam. It's really simple and very tasty.

This recipe is not the same as, but reminds me of Gateau Basque….I've made Dorie Greenspan's and it is a fabulous dessert…always getting rave reviews. I love it with marionberry jam.

Heck, I just ate one of these.

Our upstairs neighbors had way too many plums from their CSA. So they made plum crostata and gave them out.

We have a torta di fregollotte that my aunt makes that is more of a dense bar, no jam. This looks lovely. Love Food52 although I've yet to make anything directly from it, I think. But it's definitely inspired some meals.

I very fortunately have an abundance of white peaches. Plan to make a white peach crostata today and Smitten Kitchen's peach shortbread tomorrow.

I am not sure this recipe will replace others in my repertoire, but it hit the spot last evening when a quick check of the pantry and fridge yielded all of the ingredients w\o a trip to Wegmans.

Chicken Cacciatore

I had to shake on a copious q of additional red pepper flakes and wish I had the time and energy to do polenta with it instead of pasta.

How timely - per my American Food Holiday list, tomorrow (10/15) is National Chicken Cacciatore Day ;)
