The good news or the bad news is that they will be back.

Dear Home Cook,

Next week, we are rolling out some changes to the AmericasTestKitchen.com, CooksIllustrated.com, and CooksCountry.com websites.

We are informing our current members and registered users that, in order to make these updates, our websites will be offline for part of the morning on 10/29/13.

Please take care to visit our sites in advance to print any recipes or content you wish to reference during this time. You will not be able to access our websites or make changes to your account during the downtime. We apologize for any inconvenience this presents.

The goal of these changes is to improve user experience on and across the three websites. We have improved navigation, browse, and content search. In addition, we are launching a universal login that will allow you to log in once and stay logged in across all three sites, as well as a centralized account management center where you can manage your account information in one place. Finally, we are also introducing new membership options that will allow members to join all three sites through a single membership. We are excited to debut these updates in the coming week and hope that you find them an improvement to your website experience.

If you have any questions about the downtime or updates, feel free to contact us at webinquiry@americastestkitchen.com.

Thanks,

The America’s Test Kitchen Team

They were dark for such a short time that it was barely noticeable. I am sorry to report that news over at Boston Criminal Press is mostly good today.

The new cross web-site search engine is effortless and huge plus to those of entering advanced geezerhood who cannot keep ATK, CI, and CC straight.

All the pay sites can be accessed with one sign-on. The cost of total immersion membership is $69.

I believe that the recipe pages have been tweaked a bit. They render much better on 7" tablet using Mobile Chrome while the old mobile web pages that did not work so well are gone completely. I may actually be able to Cook my "Sautéed Pork Cutlets with Mustard-Cider Sauce" using my Nook.

There are 180 users on this board. What if we all send Josh 50 cents and he orders a subscription and then he sends us all the username and password so we will all have access to all three sites. It would be worth 50 cents don't you think plus Josh would have an extra $20 for the board.

Considering that the three web sites and one premium add-on service have never been available for less than $80 and currently sell for $100 now that price of Cook's Country has risen some, the $69 all-site access is a discount.

The actual web site changes are amazing improvements in functionality and can still be purchased solo so I don't really see that any change in a business model-ATKs is still unique and still works.
