So,

As a "friend" of google (it's like being a Friend of Dorothy, only less fabulous), I am now the proud owner of a nexus 10 tablet. Aside from typing about 10 words per minute on it, it must be good for something. Anybody know some good cooking apps? Especially recipe apps?

(Apparently it's also good for posting each post multiple times)

I love my iPad. Probably use it more than my Mac at this point.

There aren't a lot of fabulous cooking apps as far as I can tell. The usual suspects, e.g., Epicurious, have apps, and I occasionally use them.

Not sure if you subscribe to any cooking magazines, but all have tablet versions now. They are quite nice. Most of them are cheaper than the print versions or are free with the print version. I especially like Fine Cooking. The CI version is amazingly nice and works well much to my surprise and is cheaper than the print version.

Bitman has a nice app. There are quite a few free ones for almost any cuisine, or almost free ones for the iPad so I would assume they are available on android as well. I use an app so I can have all my Living Cookbook recipes on the iPad. I've cooked from it several times and it works really well. I have pretty much stopped printing recipes.

I also have nothing specific but it is a great kitchen tool. I also use my ipad instead of printing out recipes. Also good for playing instructional videos (love these) or doing calculations. I also use it more than my computer. Downside is that I spend too much time on it ("oh look, someone just played Words with Friends").

I just got a special pre-order deal for MacGourmet's new deluxe version which is supposed to work better between computer and app ($14 dollars plus you get a $50 gift certificate for Naked Wines. No help for you, Josh but for us out in Mac world it seems like a good deal.

To be more specific, I'm looking for an app which lets me save and use my own recipes on the tablet. There are hundreds for other people's recipes, but not any good ones I could find for mine.

I just use Dropbox. Its low tech, but lets me access my recipes everywhere. I'll usually put them into a word file (either from my desktop or with my Pages app on my tablet).

Josh, are your recipes in a particular software format? Handy Cookbook lets you enter your own recipes individually or transfer them in mass from Living Cookbook or Master Cook. I used that as well as Paprika which does the same thing before I discovered Hot Pot which I don't think is available for android. Both Paprika nicer and Handy Cookbook allow entry for your own recipes as well as import capability.

If your recipes are in PDF form then Dropbox or any other cloud will work, but not sure about searchability.

Alina,

My recipes are currently plain text, so I could use anything which supports copy/paste. The only thing I can find under the name Handy Cookbook looks sketchy. Paprika looks OK, but there are lots of reviews suggesting that the port to android is less than perfect; I wish they had a trial version.

Josh, sorry I thought I'd read in the Radium forum that HandyCookbook worked on Android. FWIW, it works, but is not pretty. Paprika has a nice interface, but that won't help you if it does not work well on Android, does fine on iPad.

How about this one? It seems to be designed for Android and you can import if you ever decide to get recipe software.
