I had to take a screen shot of a recent visit to the CI website:

"Dull & Gloppy"?? or "Renditions of what once was."

A title for a new CI' autobiography? Surely they could work "pretentious" in there somewhere

Darcie,

Nice catch. How long did it take them to notice and fix it?

Assuming that they have fixed it ...

Awesome. Good edit, though.

It's really kindof sad. They could have been such a different venue. Maybe they saw the success of Food Network and simply decided to dumb down. Who knows? I do know that only ONE person had to say, "I'm offended," and they just flipped and slapped the wrong hand. It's really sad.

It is sad. I look at my old issues of Cook's (the predecessor to CI) and to the early years of CI, and it was a wonderful. It has just completely fallen apart.

And they taught me how to make paella -- they even taught me how to create an indoor clambake. They told me not to add any liquid to the pot. I was deathly afraid, but I trusted them, and it was great. Now... I'm have no interest in their site nor their magazine.

If CI people want to be stupid (even when we KNOW they know better), there is no other choice than to let them choose to be stupid. Or play stupid. One is stupid, and the other is just ignorant. At this point in time, it's hard to know which is which.

I really miss the old CI.

I bought a month's subscription to CC's website in March so that I could more easily add some of their recipes to my Living Cookbook. Almost every recipe that had illustrated instructions had them in the wrong order and there were at least a dozen recipes that had the ingredients in the wrong order. And they expect people to pay for that crap.

I thought I was the only person old enough to read the 1980's Cook's Magazine. Only one test cook and Adrienne Tracy running circulation without the benefit of Fulfillment Services. The old Cook's had articles written by Jim Dodge, Barbara Kafka, Alice Waters, Peter Kump, Barbara Ensrud, Stephanie Lyness and James Beard. They must have been nobody's since they don't have any shows on the Food Channel!

And they recommended cookware in exchange for advertising; somethings did not change.
