Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch is great for identifying fish, esp. given the lack of consistent nomenclature, has photos, description, etc. Has guides by region that show the best choices where you are from a sustainable fishery standpoint -- also lists good substitutes. And it even has a sushi guide. Its Project Fishmap allows you to add the location where you found particularly good seafood (and of course look up locations).

Thanks Lindsay...I really like that one. I'm very sensitive to not eating non-sustainable fish and seafood.

Android doesn't have an app for CI or CC but you can still get it on 'favorites.'
I love My Pantry 2. Took me awhile to get it, but you can keep your kitchen inventory on it, and not ask youself whether or not you have an ingredient, when there is the best deal in the world while you're shopping. You can make shopping lists and it has a barcode scanner which I love for the inventory.

(Sort of non-cooking related, I bought Checkbook -$1.99, and it help me keep track of the amount of spending on things like groceries, cooking equipment etc. You can write your own categories, - I have one for each kid - but it's a good cost accounting/expense report system, and I always have it with me.)

I don't seem to find My Pantry 2. Hmmm...

I think KSS is on Android. While there's a lot of apps that exist for both Android and iPhone, most are just one or the other.

Oh, thought she was on Verizon/Android. Whoops.

Hence the name of the thread...iPhone apps...

Verizon just got the iPhone, so I was finally able to get one.

I agree with epicurious. I also have Mark Bittman's How to Cook Everything which I like and CI's. Bittman's works the best. I also have SparkPeople to calculate all the calories I am eating...

Non-food: Due which is an alarm/to do list
The Big App Show: demonstrations of different apps, found a few there
Meririam - Webster Dictionary: free and I am downloading it as we speak
a flashlight (mine is Taschenlampe 4 but there is an English version)
Muybridgizer: the is from the Tate Modern and you make little funny movies using stop action a la the famous one of the horse.
Shazam: tells you the name of a song when you hold it up to any music
Angry Birds: addictive game.
HowStuffWorks: all sorts of interesting information you can live without but don't have to.

PS Did you know you can make folders from your apps? Someone showed me this but no one else knew. You hold your finger on an app until the start vibrating and the you drag it onto another app and either keep the name that is suggested or add your own.
