It's seaweed!

Them folk who tell us what we should be eating right now seem to be promoting seaweed as the next "superfood". Of course, they're also promoting barley, black rice, amaranth, dandelion greens, califlower, and something called "morinaga". I like to imagine a huge gladiator pit where the lobbyists for the various new superfoods battle to the death.

But I hope it's seaweed, because I like seaweed, and I'd love to see more varieties of it being available outside of Japanese markets.

What's your pick for "superfood of 2016"?

Bacon-flavored seaweed.

Well, I don't think any grain or carb can fly, especially the gluten laden barley, but I think carb hate is still afoot in general, although amaranth is really old .... people who hate the idea of grains often give 'ancient grains' a pass. Cauliflower is just too damn boring in the public mind. I think dandelion greens would be hard to productize; I kind of like them, but mostly you can put them in salad... and put them in salad. Of that list, I'd say amaranth has the best shot. Maybe mixed in with some bacon.

We have one seaweed lover in the house, but the rest of us not so much. Bacon flavoured seaweed might convert them. I vote for barley as no carb people have had their moment in the sun and it's a big deal in my mom's soups.

The gluten totally kills barley as a possible for this year. I like seaweed ( I was brought up eating dried seaweed ), but the huge majority of the population makes a face if you mention it.
