Maple sugar. No problem with syrup but those little maple leaf candies do a number on me (and the number is 2). |

Campari and other Amaro give me indigestion like nobody's business. Nothing else seems to always be a problem for me, although I occasionally get urpy or gassy depending on quantity and combination of some foods (the usual suspects like cabbage and beans). But only sometimes. |

Fuzzy, In November, Consumer Reports had an article on arsenic in our food, specifically in rice. "Organic rice baby cereal, rice breakfast cereals, brown rice, white rice—new tests by Consumer Reports have found that those and other types of rice products on grocery shelves contain arsenic, many at worrisome levels." http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/maga ... .htm#chart |

Tim. So maybe I'm sensitive to arsenic? |

Oh yeah. Matcha gives me significant heartburn. It makes me sad. I made a green tea latte for several days before I figured it out. Loved them! |

Here's an article on food intolerances. It's Cracked.com, so there's adult-type language. 4 Things Nobody Tells You About Food Allergies Yeah, it says "allergies" but it's more about intolerance. |

Fuzzy - ACV (apple cider vinegar) made it possible for me to tolerate many foods (dark chocolate, pizza, beef, tomatoes etc) that used to cause regular heartburn & funny tummy. Before I would give up on rice, try a concoction of 1/2c water, 1TB of ACV (with the mother) and some honey, heated in microwave or not. Sip it like brandy & repeat as needed. It works because it slightly adjusts the pH of the stomach so that it's still acidic, just not so much. There's lots of discussion on the web about this miracle cure. Hope it works for you & others! |

JesBelle, The bit he mentions about Celiac is fascinating ... I dug into it some, and the study he mentions is real. This then leads to all kinds of thoughts about epigenetics, microflora poverty and other recent biological theories. Mostly, though, it leads to having a cheat-sheet at home with what celiac sufferers can and can't eat in case you have to feed one. Ivy: thanks, I'll look into that. |
