All,

Thought I should bump this with few favorite Android "apps" for helping make or eat "apps":

  • Kitchen Timer (per above)
  • Barcode Scanner for looking up products while shopping
  • Yelp.com app: this one has "enhanced reality" which means you point the camera at a restaurant and it tries to look it up. As well as letting me contribute yelp reviews on-site, of course.
  • AK Notepad (per above)
  • Built-in apps: camera, Google Maps, web browser

I'm working on a book inventory application, which will be able to track my huge collection of cookbooks.

Things I could use and haven't seen:
  • A decent picture uploader for SmugMug (the official one is broken)
  • An easy-to-use shopping list application
  • An app which does conversions of pan/pot sizes and measurements

I like Mighty Grocery for a shopping list. You can shop by aisle, and check off items as you go. I like it better than My Pantry 2's shopping list, but I like their inventory.

Alina and Another Person suggested Grocery King, but it's 'buy only' no free trial, so you can't get a look at it. I respect Alina's opinion, but I've already got two, and have to mix them.

I had a professor who used to say that when she would say, 'somebody ought to.......' she knew who that somebody was. You've got skills. Condsider making us and app. that has everything our little hearts desire.

KSS,

Actually, I don't generally do end-user software. I work on large database systems. So I'm not really the best person to create an app.

I bet you know someone who could! Try to promote a little creative spirit and entrepreneurism and you might unleash a new genie! :) !
