Is anyone else getting curious about this? Will the girls be able to "help" & learn in that big official kitchen? Will they have their own private kitchen to make their own food in - the sort of stuff you do after school, like make a batch of peanut butter cookies?

Who is the new White House chef or are they keeping the old one?? That must be quite a learning curve, do they change right away for all the inagural parties??

I read somewhere of the chefs under consideration for WH chef. The only one I can remember is Rick Bayless. I don't think he was chosen though. I would love, love, love to be behind the scenes at one of those big WH dinners.

The residential area of the White house has a private kitchen.

Last I heard, Rick Bayless said no thanks...I haven't heard any indication that the Obamas were looking to name a new chef

Recommended reading - White House Chef by Walter Scheib, the WH chef preceding the current one, Cris Comerford. He recently sent this letter in response to all the bellyaching going on about the WH kitchen (long story short, they already do a lot of what everyone is telling them to do  )

The First Family has a kitchen in their private quarters...While he was at the WH, Chef Scheib gave Chelsea Clinton cooking lessons before she went to Stanford so she would not have to depend too much on the cafeteria, especially since she had become a vegetarian.

Bayless isn't it...and quite frankly isn't WH chef material (he's interior Mexican, afterall). Most chefs who have filled the spot have been non celebrities and are able to cook across a variety of cuisines.

The rumors circulating say that they'll likely be from Chicago. What has DC more excited is that the Obama's do like to frequent restaurants (like the Clinton's did) which is something Bush II did not.

(And if he did, it was a real crappy Tex-Mex place that all Texans agree on it being crappy.)

I think that the children will have just such wonderful opportunities. I hope they will be able to stay grounded. I think that the grandmother moving in with them is a great idea. You can never have too many caring people to raise children.

I think that Lou makes a good point, I read about the chili stop the other day. I bet he and Michelle will go out on their date nights as often as they can. Built in babysitters, right? I don't know who I would fear more, the Secret Service or Mrs. Robinson.

You wanna hear something sickening?

I was going to go to Ben's Chili Bowl the day that Obama showed up but my buddy and I decided not to because the place (and it's true) on a weekend is just a tourist trap and impossible to get in and navigate.

We would've gotten there at 12:15.......Obama showed up at 12:45.

Grrrrrr.....

That is sickening...

When you say tourist trap...is the chili any good? or are you just referring to the crowds?
