Since I am now letting all yogurt drain somewhat on cheesecloth and a wire strainer, I am piling up this whey stuff, saving it in jars in the fridge. Jasmine, my yellow lab really likes it, so for now she is getting it. I'm also going to try it in scrambled eggs. It looks a lot like egg whites. I'm afraid if I use it for deicer, I'll attract every racoon in the county. Plus worse here, there's been a cougar around that I don't want to entice. Lynn |

I think it's good that Jasmine is getting benefit of it. After this thread began, I saw big bags of "Whey Protein" at Sam's Club, promoted as a protein powder to use for smoothies. Chocolate or Vanilla flavor. I'm not sure how much liquid whey would be equivalent to a "scoop" of this dried evaporated product but obviously the liquid has some decent nutrition in it. I wonder if the whey liquid contains any of the beneficial bacteria. That would just be one more bonus and reason for Jasmine to have it or for you to include it in a smoothie or other uncooked use (where the bacteria would not be killed). You're right about the cougar, I wouldn't put it outside either! |
