I was reading an article on some of the most distressed companies that were likely to fail in 2010, and one of them was DineEquity, aka Crapplebees. Note how they plan to fix their situation (in bold, below)

DineEquity

Industry: Restaurants
Market cap: $404 million
Headquarters: Glendale, Calif.
Recent news: Sharp discounting to draw customers to its Applebee's stores resulted in 4.3% sales decline. Company now plans to remodel restaurants to attract customers.

Here's a tip - how about making the food better to attract customers? Apparently reducing the prices to reflect the quality doesn't work (obviously they didn't go far enough down to achieve equity between price & taste), so let's redecorate. Yeah, if the place has shiny new stuff to look at, no one will notice the dry chicken breasts covered with artery-clogging, greasy and bland sauces served with highly overpriced, tooth-achingly sweet drinks...

I have heard from a few friends who are restaurant cooks that Applebee's cooks are the worst of the worst. If you get fired from any restaurant in America, Applebee's will hire you.

Proves the old theory (and I am paraphrasing)....if you can't give them quality, dazzle them with bullshit!

Darcie,

Maybe they're just being realistic about their ability to improve quality.

I certainly won't miss them.
