If my math is correct, that's $30/lb for bison. I'll pass. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I'm going to buy some prime beef from Lobel's.

If you want to spend that much money on meat you can do it here. I am not sure what bison is but I just bought stew meat on sale for 12 bucks a pound. Double or triple that for a good steak.

Yarghh. It's the Omaha steaks of bison. I've seen some expensive meat but I've never paid more than 6 bucks a pound for bison, even when I wasn't buying a side or quarter.

Bison (aka Buffalo) is pretty popular here in Colorado. Most restaurants have at least one item on the menu, because it is so low in fat content. Its pretty easy to come by in meat markets or upscale grocers and doesn't come close to $30 pound. It is not a favorite of mine, but I have had buffalo burgers that were pretty good.

$30.00 bucks a pound is cheap compared to what I spend in pursuit venison & other various & assorted game, fish & fowl... ;)

Yeah, I have some friends who were once bragging on the "free" meat they got while hunting. Except for the gas, lodging, weapons, gear, clothing, etc.

I prefer to be like a Mafia don - I just order a hit and then take home neatly wrapped packages.

Shhhh...I have Melinda convinced that I "sacrifice" myself in pursuit of referenced critters for the family... 8-)

But the other costs are what you spend on the entertainment factor of your trips. You could spend the same amount on a different vacation and come home with much less useful trinkets. How much of your annual meat consumption comes from animals you killed yourself? I bet we could figure out a cost per pound based on the cost of the trip and it still won't come to 30 dollars a pound.

All,

Bizarrely, one of the restaurants near my college in Southern California was Buffalo Burger, which served only bison and beefalo. I don't know how they were (I was a veg even then) but they made killer homemade potato chips.

Oddly, I've never seen water buffalo on the menu anywhere. Do people only milk them and then bury them when they die?
