Whew. Looked up locations; fortunately, this typhoon landed at the opposite end of the islands from Steve. Not sure if his wife's family is affected though ...

Hope you and your family are safe, Steve. Our thoughts are with you.

I work with a Filipino fello whom I just shared some lemongrass with last week. I asked him if relatives or friends were in danger, and fortunately they aren't. But, like he said, everyone out of the path knows someone there.

Steve, as someone often in the path of hurricanes, I am hoping you and your family were not too negatively effected. The reports are terrible. Please know everyone here is thinking about you.

Folks,

If you want to donate to help the Phillippinos, here's likely targets:

NAFCON: http://nafconusa.org/programs/

International Red Cross: http://www.icrc.org/eng/resources/docum ... yphoon.htm

Salvation Army: http://www.salvationarmy.org/phl

Please note that the American Red Cross is a separate organization from the IRC, and has a history of misappropriating disaster donations. So don't give through them! And, while the Salvation Army may have deplorable policies on domestic partner benefits, they do excellent work on the ground.
