I'm pushing the limits a bit on being food-related but one of the Americans awarded the Nobel prize in Economics, Eugene Fama, is a frequent business acquaintance of my wife. We operate an all-inclusive wealth management business (i.e., we do everything related to wealth for our clients or nothing). It is designed for those desiring to delegate that aspect of their life so they can do whatever else they want. Part of this involves investing and for this we use a global company based in Austin, DFA. Eugene Fama is a founder and consultant to DFA and we attend annual meetings at DFA headquarters wherein we often talk with him (I just listen..... ). We had a long supper with him at a similar event in Sydney, Australia a few years back, 2005, and they had his place card next to me - - - you can bet I switched places with my wife :!: :o He is very funny. loves to ride his bicycle everywhere and is mad about golf! Even in 2005 there was talk about him being nominated but... So, we were shocked to watch the news this morning at 5 AM to see his name being announced. We will be at another DFA meeting next week in Austin and his speech has already been sent to all advisors ahead of time so they can prepare questions. It should be a hoot to see the ribbing he will have to take. He will be the third Nobel prize winner on DFA's board so I am sure the others will be prepping something evil. Although I don't understand their high-level discussions about finance, I am okay at the low levels and it is fun to just watch them be normal. I just had to share :!: :D

Wino,

That is a pretty wonderful story. An economist with a sense of humor. I know all of the economist jokes...

Can you be an economist without a sense of humor?

Wino, congrats to your friend.

That is very cool, Wino. Talking to people who are extremely intelligent and coherent is such a joy.
