When hurricane Floyd came through a birch tree on a low-lying part of our property tilted over because the ground was completely over saturated. Andy (being the handy dude he is) winched the tree back up and cabled it off to a nearby huge spruce tree. The tree had fallen onto the power lines, and we didn't notice it had popped the neutral in the process. The power company also didn't notice it because the tree had already been winched up when they came through to repair the damage to the power lines.

Two days later the power came on, and our house got zapped with 220v of electricity. Fried the range (had to replace), the power source for the computer and a few other things. A very expensive storm for us indeed.

I feel your pain (and wallet).

Oh, and all of this happened two weeks prior to our wedding.

Amy

Is any of this covered by your insurance?

So I go the appliance store tonight to pick up my new motherboard and they ordered the wrong part. I drove back home and brought in the parts so they know what to order this time.

The appliance store called me today and Viking doesn't make the part I need anymore. They think they found somebody who can fix the motherboard but they aren't sure. I am not too happy with Viking right now.

Have you called Viking? Surely they would have a solution for you.

WOW that is costly. I'd sure as heck check around or buy a new wall over before I put that much in to the old one. The good news is the refrigerator is now clean as a whistle! Will your insurance cover any of it. You might have enough if you add up everything in the fridge that was lost as well.

I'm going to look into that whole house serge protector. We have an electrician coming to finish wiring up the outdoor kitchen he can do it while he's here. Safe a little on the service call.

Laurie

Sorry to hear that, Todd. Sounds completely frustrating.

Yikes! That sucks (I've lived it myself once for 6 weeks....learned how to get by with a toaster oven and cheap electric burner. Not fun!).
