I had that idea too Jes. I was afraid to post it though as my hot gluing of gingerbread houses has never been embraced here.

Mary,

Lib is always trying to enhance the flavor of her gingerbread houses. You might tell me what flavors of hot glue might be available?

When making houses for little tykes, you want the houses to be sturdy enough to handle. I always tell parents that we add a handful of fiberglass to each batch of gingerbread for strength.

fyi, the battery powered LEDs do work nicely although the cost is somewhat higher than the $0.79 single.

After sitting around in my house with my constantly shedding dog, I don't think anyone should eat one of my gingerbread houses.

I've always assumed that gingerbread houses weren't really made to be eaten....so the hot glue idea kinda appeals to me!

Eating your gingerbread house is part of the tradition. Lib tells all of her young bakers that eating the candy off the house before Christmas means Santa might just pass you by....

Thanks for all of the help. Any electrics will be provided by the students. We will be going for the basic rectangular house with chimney. I might be persuaded to provide a few ice cream cones to use as trees, but that's it.

After being exposed in my house for over a month there's no way we'd eat it either. Our family tradition is to put the house out for the squirrels to eat. We smash it first and then put it out.

Just in case your Christmas wasn't quite twee enough (so cute though!) --

And this, if your tastes are more high-falutin'.
